ABANDONED DOG POLICY

In accordance with Tuscany Regional Law 59/2009, Article 28, Cammino Canino is legally obligated to report to authorities if an animal has been abandoned.

Should a dog not collected or if payment is not made by the agreed pick-up time and 72 hours pass without resolution, Cammino Canino reserves the right to take immediate action to board the dog and initiate the legal process of rehoming or placing the dog for adoption through authorized shelters, in full compliance with regional regulations.

Additionally, under Article 727 of the Italian Penal Code, animal abandonment is defined as:

“Anyone who abandons pets or animals who have habitually lived in captivity shall be punished with arrest for up to one year or with a fine from €1,000 to €10,000.”

This law is designed to protect animals from neglect and abandonment. Importantly, abandonment is not limited to leaving an animal in a public space—it also includes refusing or failing to retrieve an animal from a care facility, such as a kennel, boarding service, or pet sitter. Pet owners are legally responsible for ensuring timely collection and payment. Failure to do so may result in legal action and additional costs, and will be treated as abandonment under Italian law.
